Abstract
With the development of antibiotics and chemotherapeutics. There has been a great decrease in frequency of the intracranial complications from otogenic and rhinogenic origin. But, in spite of such availability of antibiotics, chemotherapeutics and skillful operative methods of treatment for nasal and aural troubles, intracranial complibations araise occasionally.
Generally, we know that the frequency of intracranial complications from rhinogenic is more rare than otogenic. Especially, there was no report, of intracranial complications following maxillary sinus operation.
The authors have recently experienced a case of intracranial complications (meningitis), following Caldwell-Luc¢¥s operation for chronic maxillary sinusitis. The patient was a 20 years old Korean soldier who had been suffering from nasal obstruction, purulent nasal discharge and frontal headache for 3 years duration.
We performed the Caldwell-Luc¢¥s operation on right side after check of P.N.S. X-Ray and C.B.C. However, 5 days after operations intracranial complication was developed without any effect of postoperative routine antibiotics.
